I woke up one day in early 2009 finally willing to admit that I was a miserable unhappy person. I was working in the corporate world, limping along as a well paid burned-out project manager. Little time to spend with friends and family. Little energy to do things I love to do, like hiking and music. I didn’t know who I was anymore. Most of my life had been spent striving to make other people happy.
I was clear about one thing – a desire inside me to do something that gives me joy, that feeds my soul…not just my bank account. I hired a life coach and began the process of getting to know me…what I longed for, what I loved, and the gifts I had to share with the world. Some of those early conversations were more about what I didn’t want or know, than what I did. What I longed for felt like a huge change. It took courage, time, energy and support.
I was right where I needed to be.
There was one session where my coach Larry looked at me and said, “maybe right now is not a good time since your job is demanding so much of your time and attention.” I sat up straight, stuck my quivering chin out, looked him straight in the eyes and said in a stern solid voice, “if I don’t get started, I will never get out of here.” I remember wondering where that voice came from. I sensed the steel in my spine at the thought of staying in a place that sucked the very life out of me. It wasn’t going to happen. I was leaving and I could feel the certainty in me in that moment.
Today, I live a life of wholeness. I know and appreciate all the unique aspects of who I am. My life is filled with relationships I enjoy, a home and partner that I cherish, music, and a sense of purpose and joy that comes from helping people and organizations embrace their own unique wholeness.
I believe there is a spark inside each of us that longs to fully live our unlived life. It speaks to us every day, if we will just listen. Larry helped me slow down, be still and pay attention. I would be honored to do the same for you.
I worked almost 30 years in the corporate world as an IT professional, as a Project Manager, Business Process Manager, and Deployment Leader. Six of those years were at the global level providing me with a rich experience in a multicultural environment. I have served on three non-profit boards and on a leadership development team at my church.
